SortSwift POS uses the Stripe Terminal SDK to process credit and debit card payments. Supports tap (contactless), insert (chip), and swipe (magstripe).

Reader Setup

Configure Stripe Terminal in your SortSwift and Stripe accounts. Use reader discovery to connect a compatible Stripe reader. Once connected, the reader is ready to accept payments. Ensure the reader is registered in your Stripe dashboard before use.

Processing a Card Payment

At checkout, select Card as the payment method
The system initiates a Stripe Terminal payment for the order total
Guide the customer: tap, insert chip, or swipe
Payment status updates in real time (processing, succeeded, failed)
On success, the transaction completes and is recorded in the till

Card Refunds

Card refunds are processed as reverse charges through Stripe. When initiating a return with a card refund, the original charge is reversed. Refunds can also be split across multiple methods (e.g., partial card refund and partial store credit).

Troubleshooting

If the reader is not detected, run discovery again and ensure the device is powered and on the same network. Declined payments will show an error; the customer may need to try another card or payment method.

Stripe Terminal requires an active Stripe account and compatible hardware. Check Stripe's documentation for supported readers and regional availability.
