When Buy Mode is enabled, the kiosk supports a Buy Cart: customers can select items to sell to the store. Buylist pricing applies, and a buylist order is automatically created at checkout.
What is Buy Mode?
The kiosk normally operates in Sell mode: customers browse and buy from your store. Buy Mode adds the opposite flow: customers select items they want to sell to you. Prices shown are buylist prices (what you pay), and at checkout a buylist order is created instead of a sell order.
- Sell Cart: Customer buys from you – sell prices, stock checked, collection code for pickup
- Buy Cart: You buy from customer – buylist prices, cash vs credit, buylist order created
Enabling Buy Mode
Buy Mode is configured in your store's kiosk settings (accessed from the main SortSwift app). When enabled, the kiosk shows both Sell and Buy cart options. Customers can switch between them or use one at a time.
Buylist Pricing
Buy Cart uses the same buylist pricing engine as your customer portal. Prices respect:
- Cash vs Credit: Credit typically pays more; customer chooses payment type per item or for the cart
- Condition/Language/Printing: Modifiers apply as in your buylist config
- Hotlist/Darklist: Boosted or blocked items
- Stock Limitations: Prices reduced or zero when overstocked
Buy Cart Checkout
When a customer checks out from the Buy Cart:
- Buylist Order: A full buylist order is created with cart items, customer info, and totals
- Order Status: Uses your default order status or auto-approve settings
- Collection Code: May still be generated for tracking pickup/drop-off (e.g., when customer brings cards)
- Workflow: Order appears in your buylist order list; you process it like any other buylist order (receive, review, complete, send to inventory)
Use Cases
- In-Store Buylist: Customer builds a sell list at the kiosk, then brings cards to counter
- Trade-In: Part of a trade: sell some, buy some in one visit
- Consistency: Same buylist pricing and workflow as online portal
